I currently run a YouTube channel dedicated to sewing, costuming, and other textile arts. I am an experienced dyer, painter and knitter, as well as pattern construction, costume design, sewing and alterations.
I do Disney and other mashup cosplay, and have recently gotten into historical costuming as well. You can click through the photos below to see some of my featured projects.
Taco Belle
Winner of Wizarding World Austin’s Best Hero Award 2019, Taco Belle was created using more than 15 yards of fabric. She boasts a hand-stitched “meat ruffle” on the bottom skirt, eight hand-made glitter tacos, a sour-cream-dolloped skirt swoop, a salsa-swag using real Taco Bell sauce packets, a Mexican-Pizza fascinator and a burrito-rose sure to change a magical beast into a handsome quesadilla.
Winifred Sanderson
Hello Everybody! My name’s Winifred, what’s yours? Winnie is a hand-built costume made almost entirely of cotton to combat those hot Texas Octobers. The bodice is a reconstructed t-shirt made with hand-set grommets and a purple cotton crepe insert. The skirt is hand built of cotton crepe, with a crushed velvet overskirt. The jacket is hand-built, hand-dyed, and hand-painted using gold fabric paint.
No children were harmed during the shooting of these photos. Or…were they?
Ursula
Despite a slight Trident casualty after attacking King Triton, the ocean is mine, y’all. Ursula’s bodice is a silk-and-coutil hand-built corset with front busk closure. The skirt is hand built and made from hand-painted silk using seven different acid dyes. She sports a shell necklace that glows in the dark, a trident that once actually had a head, and two sidekicks named Floatsam and Jetsam made of leg warmers, old t-shirt scraps and some felt.
Marie Antoinette
My first foray into historical costuming. Though she may not be historically accurate (she was built in 2015), she’s got some historical At-ti-tude! Marie’s made from sky blue poly satin and brocade, hand-trimmed and laced, she adored her visit to Austin. Who needs cake when you can have donuts?
